Trailblazers & Changemakers: Women Shaping the Future of Real Estate

In honor of Women’s History Month, WomanUP!® brought together a powerful group of women to reflect on how far women in real estate have come, and how much further we can go when we lead with intention, courage, and inclusion.
Women now make up nearly two‑thirds of REALTORS®, but that representation was hard‑won. When the National Association of REALTORS® was founded in 1908, there were no women members. It wasn’t until 1910 that Corrine Simpson became the first woman REALTOR®, and not until 1992 that NAR elected its first female president.
Organizations like the Women’s Council of REALTORS®, founded in 1938, played a critical role in advocating for women and developing leaders at a time when doors were often closed. WomanUP!® proudly stands on that legacy, honoring the progress women have fought for while continuing the work to ensure women have a voice, visibility, and opportunity to lead.
As the host, Melanie McShane, C.A.R. Director of Industry Relations, shared, “WomanUP is about celebrating women who are breaking barriers, challenging systems, and paving the way for more inclusive and equitable leadership in real estate.”
Meet the Women Shaping the Conversation
Sabrina Brown, Founder and Broker of Pink Key Real Estate, Speaker, and Trainer
Sabrina's leadership is rooted in education, representation, and community impact. She credits WomanUP!® with helping her step into her voice and realize the power of visibility, not just for herself, but for the women watching.
“Representation does matter. If you don’t see someone who looks like you, sometimes you don’t see yourself there.”
Her leadership journey through the Women’s Council of REALTORS® - California led her to become only the second Black state president in history, an achievement that moved women across communities and reaffirmed the power of being seen.
Lisa Dunn, Managing Broker of VonKeith Properties
With more than 33 years in real estate, Lisa’s career is a reminder that growth has no expiration date. After decades in the business, she earned her broker’s license later in life and leaned fully into leadership.
As Lisa shared, “All it takes is one challenge to change you for the rest of your life.”
Her journey reflects resilience, reinvention, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
Luisa Zepeda, Broker of Brilla Real Estate
Luisa describes herself as an introvert who never planned on a real estate career. What started as a marketing role became a calling when she realized the impact of service, advocacy, and helping first‑time homebuyers achieve their dreams.
“When I handed those first keys to first‑time homebuyers, that’s when I knew I was hooked,” she shared.
WomanUP!® served as a turning point, helping her step out of her comfort zone, claim her voice, and create her own path.
Listen to this conversation as it makes it very clear:
Your voice matters.
Your presence matters.
And your leadership, exactly as you are, is needed.
