Risk, Resilience and Reinvention
What if the risk you are avoiding is the one that could change your direction?
In this episode of WomanUP!® Live, Julia Lashay and Kama Burton joined Sara Sutachan for an honest conversation about facing fear, moving through setbacks and finding the courage to begin again.
Watch or listen to the replay below for their powerful stories and practical advice on taking your next step, even when you do not feel ready.
Start Before You Feel Ready
Kama Burton, Broker Owner of CMB Realty Services and Founder of Loving Me 1st, shared how she stayed committed to earning her broker license and opening her own brokerage. Support from people who believed in her helped her move past self-doubt and take the leap.
Her message was simple: Choose yourself, do what feels uncomfortable and tune out the noise.
Julia Lashay, Operating Principal of Keller Williams in Minneapolis-St. Paul, explained how small decisions can lead to unexpected opportunities. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she began creating classes without knowing how they would affect her career. That work ultimately helped change its direction.
Her advice: Do one thing today that moves you forward. It does not have to be big.
Build Forward, Not Back
The conversation also challenged the idea that resilience always means “bouncing back.” Some experiences change us. Instead of trying to return to who we were, Julia Lashay encouraged viewers to use those experiences to build something meaningful moving forward.
Both guests emphasized the importance of having people around you who offer encouragement, honesty, guidance, and support. As Sara Sutachan, C.A.R. Senior Vice President, Chief Strategy Officer, and WomanUP!® Co-Founder, reminded viewers, we are not in this alone.
Build a Circle That Helps You Grow
Resilience is not built alone. Julia Lashay encouraged viewers to surround themselves with five important people:
A believer
A truth teller
A connector
A safe person
A mentor
Each person plays a different role in helping you stay grounded, recognize opportunities and keep moving forward through challenges. It is a practical reminder that the right community can make all the difference.
Let Your Purpose Lead
Julia Lashay recommended creating a personal mission statement to help separate meaningful opportunities from noise. Kama Burton reminded viewers that growth happens one step at a time and requires patience, practice, and self-encouragement.
